Today almost everyone knows someone who has a child with autism. Autism is a severe neurological disorder that has recently reached epidemic proportions in our country. The Center for Disease Control (CDC) estimates that one in every 150 children suffer with this disorder today which costs our society upwards of 35 billion dollars annually. Jeffrey Becker, OD and Sheila Becker, RN, staff with the NeuroSensory Center of Eastern Pennsylvania in Kingston, say that with appropriate treatment children with autism can lead healthy productive lives and in some cases even recover from this disorder. “New research is overturning the traditional view of autism as an untreatable genetic disorder. Environmental Toxins that when recognized and treated, can lead to marked improvement,” said Dr. Becker. The Beckers recently traveled to San Diego, California to attend the Autism Research Institute’s “Defeat Autism Now!” conference and medical training. While there, they networked with hundreds of parents of children with this disorder along side top clinical researchers to learn more about autism and effective treatments. In addition to working with the nation’s top doctors researching and treating children with autism, the Beckers were able to hear actress Jenny McCarthy as she shared the story of how she recovered her son, Evan, from autism. |

They plan to share the knowledge with local parents of children with autism through their day to day work at the NeuroSensory Center. Dr. Becker says that this was the best conference he’s attended and adds that “the information we received at the DAN! Conference enhances the work we’re already doing at the NeuroSensory Center for children with autism, ADD, ADHD, and dyslexia. We’re thrilled to be able to help even more families with this additional knowledge. |

Kiwanis Club Luncheon Presentation The Wilkes-Barre Kiwanis Club recently invited Jeffrey Becker, O.D., and Robert Bohlander, Ph.D. of the NeuroSensory Center of Eastern Pennsylvania to a luncheon meeting at Genetti’s Best Western Hotel and Conference Center in Wilkes-Barre, PA. A question and answer period followed the doctors’ presentation about neurosensory disorders, their diagnosis, and their treatment. |

St. Luke’s Hospital Address Jeffrey Becker, O.D., and Robert Bohlander, Ph.D. of the NeuroSensory Center of Eastern Pennsylvania recently gave an invited address to staff at St. Luke’s Hospital, Bethlehem, PA. The audience included a group of 20 Occupational Therapists and Physical Therapists, and Dr. Robert Coni, Neurologist for St. Luke's Neurological Associates. The Doctors spoke about the services offered to head injury and stroke patients by the NeuroSensory Center. The address also included information about neuroplasticity in the visual system following neurological damage. |
