Dr. Robert Bohlander, Ph.D.– Director of Neuropsychology Services

Dr. Robert Bohlander, Ph.D., a Presidential Scholar and magna cum laude graduate of Lebanon Valley College of Pennsylvania, was awarded a Rush Rhees Fellowship to continue graduate study at the University of Rochester, Rochester, NY. There he completed his doctoral degree in both the Department of Psychology's Sensory and Perceptual Processes Program, as well as the interdisciplinary Center for Visual Science. He obtained additional specialization in Neurophysiology through the University of Rochester Medical Center's Center for Brain Research. His doctoral work focused on The Influence of Head Position and Visual Attention on Perceived Auditory Direction.

Dr. Bohlander's role within the NeuroSensory Center of Eastern Pennsylvania is to provide psychological and neuropsychological patient assessments, and to consult on the potential involvement of psychological and neuropsychological factors in patients' medical conditions and symptom presentation.

Dr. Bohlander is a Professor of Psychology at Wilkes University, where he has taught courses in neuropsychology, physiological psychology, psychopathology, and sensory and perceptual processes.  He is also a Licensed Psychologist who has maintained a Clinical Psychology practice for 20 years.

Dr. Jeffrey Becker, O.D.– Director of Vision Services

Dr. Becker is a 1978 graduate of the Pennsylvania State University and graduated from The Illinois College of Optometry in 1983. He has been practicing in Northeastern Pennsylvania for over 24 years, with a specialty practice in Rehabilitative Optometry. Dr Becker is an adjunct faculty member of Misercordia University, Dallas, PA where he teaches vision rehabilitation courses to master's level occupational and physical therapy students.

Dr. Becker in his 24 years of clinical and research experience has examined and treated over 3000 head injury, stroke, and neurologically impaired patients ranging in ages from birth to senior citizens. Dr. Becker is a Defeat Autism Now! Certified physician.

Sheila Becker is a 1974 graduate of the Geisinger Medical Center School of Nursing.  She has worked in the ICU/CCU at Bethesda Hospital in Chicago, IL, where she developed a home rehabilitation program for post coronary patients.  She has also worked with Wayne Memorial Hospital in Honesdale, PA, Bayada Nurses, and Heartland Home Healthcare in Bradenton, FL, where she provided home care to patients.  She brings to the NeuroSensory Center extensive knowledge and experience treating patients with Downs Syndrome, genetic heart and lung defects, diabetes, coronary artery disease, chronic lung disease, and epilepsy.  She continues her education with numerous seminars including Medical Errors, HIV  updates, Domestic Violence, Women’s Health Care, and ADD/ADHD disorders from Childhood through Adulthood.  Sheila is a Defeat Autism Now! certified practitioner. She is also certified by NeuroSensory Centers of America in the use of the Sensory View Diagnostic System®.

Diane Haberkern is Director of Diagnostic Testing at The NeuroSensory Center of Eastern Pennsylvania, and is certified by NeuroSensory Centers of America in the use of the Sensory View Diagnostic System®.  Diane earned a B.A. in Psychology from Wilkes University, and while there conducted research in perceptual psychology.  Her research was presented at the Pennsylvania Academy of Sciences, and published in its Proceedings. Diane was employed for over a decade as a Mental Health Specialist in the Behavioral Science Unit, Robert Packer Hospital, Sayre, PA, administering both individual and group psychotherapy.   After moving to the Wilkes-Barre area, Diane served as Job Coach for the Circle of Friends organization at Misericordia University.

Paula Chaiken– Outreach Coordinator

Holly Norkus, B.A.– Vision Rehabilitation Specialist

Paula Chaiken is the Outreach Coordinator  for The NeuroSensory Center of Eastern Pennsylvania. In this role, she arranges programs and events for the Center and helps to spread the news about all the great things the doctors and staff of the NeuroSensory Center are doing for the patients. A Summa Cum Laude graduate of Duke University with an AB in English, Paula also has Masters degrees in Human Services Administration and Teaching. She attended the Defeat Autism Now! Conference in the Spring of 2008 and volunteers with Generation Rescue. Mary Ellen O’Brien, B.A.– Administrative Assistant

 

 

                

Sheila Becker, R.N.– Director of Nursing

Holly is a 2007 graduate of Wilkes University, where she graduated Cum Laude, and achieved a degree in Psychology, with a concentration in Neuroscience. She brings to the NeuroSensory Center extensive laboratory work in Neuroscience classes, as well as NeuroSensory Training in Vision Rehabilitation and Visual Deficits. She is currently continuing her education in Nursing School (BSN) at Misericordia University

Mary Ellen is a 1980  graduate of Baldwin-Wallace College, Berea, Ohio.  This Presidential Honors student graduated with a degree in Business Administration, Marketing concentration.   She brings to the NeuroSensory Center years of Office Management and Operations Systems experience.                   .
